The sun-kissed vineyards soar up towards the sky as steeply as the Gothic hipped roof of Englar Castle itself.
Blessed with a gentle southern breeze and 1,700 hours of sunshine a year, these lands have been home to vineyards since time immemorial.
The South Tyrolean climate, the healthy soil and, of course, vocational love, infuses the castle wines with their distinctive characters - which meet together in the cellar as one glorious whole.
Some people have even said that they think they can taste the unusual atmosphere of the castle in them...

THE VINEYARDS
The idyllic beauty of the castle and grounds continues onwards into the surrounding vineyards.
Over gentle, rolling hills sheltered by the mountain range to their back, the vineyards surrounding the estate are dotted with small woods, a brook, hedges, and the duck pond. Outstanding soil of volcanic porphyry mixed with moraine deposits and lime infuse the vineyards with all of the nutrients they need to thrive.
We are in the fortunate position of being the largest single vineyard in the superb Appiano mountain area, and it is here that we do everything in our power to get the very best out of nature. The cornerstones of our vineyard philosophy are the organic management of our vineyard, the preservation of the natural diversity of plants and animals, and watchful eye to the challenges of the future.
EXCELLENT WINES ARE OUR GOAL
The gentle southernly breeze brings the sunshine here for 1700 hours a year.
The organically managed grapes are harvested in a harmonious balance of ripeness and freshness, enabling us to continue on to the cellar-processing stage without recourse to additive substances. This provides us with the perfect base to develop pure, authentic wines, ably assisted by a lengthy barrel-ageing process and a long time on the lees.
OUR ANCESTORS DID NOT SETTLE UPON THIS SITE BY CHANCE ALONE. THIS IS A MAGNIFICENT CORNER OF THE EARTH FOR A FAMILY HOME AND ESTATE, WITH UNPARALLELED VINEYARD LANDS.
